In The Field: Yakushima
Summer’s almost over. Let’s do something. Let’s go camping.
Yakushima is like another world. The 135 kilometer island is a lush, mountainous, old growth rainforest, and a World Heritage Site with white sand beaches and crystal clear blue salt water.

Besides the lush vegetation, the island is speckled with bright red, pink and white hibiscus flowers.
Wildlife abounds. On the same stretch of mountain road, you can see; birds, monkeys, reindeer, tanuki, and red freshwater crabs.
Yakushima is a truly unbelievable and unique place.

イン・ザ・フィールド 〜野外にて（屋久島）
夏ももうすぐ終わる。何かしよう。キャンプへ行こう。
屋久島は素晴らしい。まるで別の世界なのに、便利なことに国内にそこはある。
全長１３５キロメートルのその島は、緑が生い茂り、山にあふれ、原生林のある世界遺産の地である。
しかもクリスタル・ブルー色をした海と美しいビーチもあるのだ。
豊かな緑に加え、この島は鮮やかな赤、ピンク、そして白いハイビスカスの花々で彩られている。
野生生物の宝庫。ずっと続く山道には、鳥やサル、シカ、たぬき、そして沢ガニを見つけることが出来る。
沢ガニは滝や川、沢を伝って山の辺りから森林を抜け、行き来する。
波を砕く音は全てのものを、まろやかな厚みのある毛布のように被せてくれる。
テントやキャビンに入る太陽の光や、たたきつける雨での目覚めは、ありふれた日常の完璧な解毒作用となるだろう。
屋久島はまさに驚異的であり、独特な場所である。
